The fifth edition of The Subsconscious Restaurant is released on the occasion of the opening of Taichung Art Museum and is part of a collaborative project connected to the museum’s inaugural exhibition, A Call of All Beings: See you tomorrow, same time, same place (December 13, 2025–April 12, 2026). The publication is bilingual (English and Chinese).
Skink Time — an excerpt from Tessa Laird’s book Cinemal (University of Minnesota Press, 2025) in which the author seizes on a chance encounter with garden skinks to conceptualize an animal approach to experimental film.
Bernie Krause — an excerpt from Animal Music (Strange Attractor, 2015) in which Tobias Fischer reflects on the work of field recordist Bernie Kraus, who conceived the forest’s animal sounds as a biophony—a great animal orchestra.
Gaomei Wetlands — an interview with Hui-Chen Lin, a professor of wetland ecology at Tunghai University’s Department of Life Sciences, who discusses Taichung’s Gaomei Wetlands, a protected area increasingly strained by tourism.
Nick Tsai — an article discussing the sound works of Taichung artist Nick Tsai, who creates music by channeling the bioelectrical currents of common flora through modular synthesizers.
Yenting Hsu — an interview with Taipei sound artist Hsu Yenting, whose works explore the collision of natural and human-made sounds.
